MBS Family Farms celebrates 40 years with family, friends and the public

There was something for everyone on Wednesday evening at MBS Family Farms Open House. The Mehmen family celebrated their 40 years in business by inviting the public out to the farm and showing them how they built a legacy through traditional family values.Stan and Karmen Mehmen began farming in 1976 and there have been many changes in the farming industry since then. “The biggest change is how we take care of all the information,” said Karmen, “it’s now from the tractor to barn to the office.”It used to take the Mehmen’s months to finish the final paperwork after harvest and know how well they did for the year but with new technology throughout the years this has made the process less time consuming and they can know in real time about any of the crop information.The Mehmen’s have grown the family farm into a family business and were fortunate to bring their son Kyle and his wife Kerri in 11 years ago. MBS Family Farms now employs 10 full-time, five truck drivers, two part-time, three seasonal and one remote employee. The Mehmen’s treat their employees like family which anyone can see.MBS Family Farms had over 60 volunteers to help with their event including the Nashua-Plainfield FFA and the girls’ volleyball team. People of all ages were proud to come out to congratulate the Mehmen’s like Curly Janssen who said, “The Mehmen’s are great stewards of the soil.”Former Plainfield teachers Donn and Cherie Schafer came out to the event after 10 years of invitations from the Mehmen’s. Donn was Stan’s teacher in school and they finally came out to see what the Plainfield couple had done throughout the years. Cherie said, “We were curious about their operation and they have done good for themselves.”Over 600 RSVPs came into the office to see the kids’ activities, vendor booths, drone demonstration, ice cream, the meal and program at the farm. Local residents along with people from Kansas and Missouri joined in the fun throughout the evening.After visiting each vendor and getting the card punch everyone was entered to win door prizes like an IPad Air, Apple Watch, GoPro Camera, SnapOn Tools or a Michael Kors purse to name a few.Everyone who attended the MBS Family Farm Open House enjoyed the time out on the farm while learning how The Mehmen family was able to build a legacy through traditional family values while still building for the next generation.
