Marolyn Jeanette Bina dies at 79

Marolyn Jeanette Bina (nee Hauer) was born on June 14, 1937, in Calmar, to Hugo and Mathilda (nee Beer) Hauer. She passed peacefully Thursday, June 8, 2017, at her home in Arlington Heights.
Marolyn worked as an office manager, first for Rankin Radio and TV, and then for Austin Paints, both in Prospect Heights, until retiring in 1997. An avid gardener, Marolyn served as Horticulture Chair for the Arlington Heights Garden Club for many years, and her personal garden was profiled in Chicagoland Gardening magazine and on WGN TV News. Raised on a farm in northeast Iowa, she wove together horticultural expertise, gardening advice, and reflections on rural life in her popular column “See How It Grows” for the Almanac of Arlington Heights. She was an active member of Questers and of Quilting Group.
Marolyn is survived by her companion of 29 years, David S. Bordner; her sons, Craig (Jennifer) Bina, Eric (Marianne) Bina, and Shawn (Cindy) Bina; her grandchildren, Colton Bina, Natalie Bina, and Tanner Bina; her sisters, Jeanette (Melvin) Heit, and Carol (Roger) Riehle, and her brother, Darrel (Jamie) Hauer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by a son, Scott Bina.
A memorial gathering will be held Monday, June 19, 2017, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, Ill. Interment services for family will be held in Iowa at a future date.
