Larry Jones was born on May 4, 1930, in San Diego CA, the son of Edward and Constance Jones. He lived in many places around the world while following his father’s lifetime service in the Navy. As a teenager, a highlight in his life was when Larry and two friends rode their bicycles the entire length of the State of California. Larry graduated from high school at Mission Beach High School in San Diego, California. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy in San Diego, California. He served in the navy for six years from 1948 to 1954. He met the love of his life, Darlene Stevenson, in San Diego in 1954, and they were married the same year. After their first child was born, they moved to Cresco, Iowa, where Darlene grew up. They added three more children to the family and then moved to New Hampton, Iowa. They called New Hampton home from 1961 to 1990 where Larry sold life insurance for Northwestern Mutual Life for over 25 years and was very active in civic life in New Hampton. He served on New Hampton’s City Council and as Economic Development Director. In 1990 they moved to Eagan, Minnesota. This was home until 2007 when they moved to Mesa, Arizona. Larry golfed most every chance he got whether in Iowa or Arizona. In 2018 Larry wanted to live closer to his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, so he and Darlene moved back to Apple Valley, Minnesota. He enjoyed every minute he got to spend with them until his illness.
Survivors include one son, Lester (Carol) Jones from New Richmond, Wisconsin. Three daughters, Connie (Jerry) Kramer from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Cathy (Ron) Sams from Edina, Minnesota, and Carol (Steve) Schmidt from Hastings, Minnesota, 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Don Jones.
