Joseph H. Grober, age 90, of Alta Vista, IA, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, IA.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington with Father Brian Dellaert celebrating the mass. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Alta Vista.Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma, IA with a 7:00 PM Scriptural Wake Service. Memorials may be directs to the family.Joseph Henry Grober was born September 26, 1928 to Jacob and Elizabeth (Ruhoff) Grober on the family farm near Alta Vista. Joe attended St. William’s School in Alta Vista graduating in 1948. At the age of 21, Joe enlisted in the US Army, serving in the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge in October of 1953. When he returned home from the military, Joe began farming near Alta Vista. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Hinz on August 23, 1958 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Alta Vista. The couple made their home on their current farm west of Alta Vista where they farmed side by side and raised their family. Joe enjoyed farming, raising hogs, cattle and chickens. He drove Mennonite families and enjoyed tending to his rose trees and garden. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington, a lifetime member of the Alta Vista VFW Paul Johann Post 4069, and was a 75 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty of Alta Vista; his children, Todd (Sherry) Grober of North Washington, Dean (Jane) Grober of Charles City, Scott Grober of Cresco, and Kyle (Kriselle) Grober of Alta Vista; his grandchildren, Jordon, Jeremy, Rachel, Alex, Raelyn, Jenna, Nicki, Bryce, Hunter, Lane, Lewis and Kelvin; his great-grandchildren, Jayden, Andrew, Mackenzie, Madeline, Quinten and Lauren; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rosella Gahling and Mary Kolbet; his brothers, Vincent and Andrew; infant daughter, Kathleen and stepmother, Emilia.
