Industrial Park Color Run is on the move
New Hampton’s Industrial Park 5K Color Run is on the move ... at least on the calendar.Since its inception in 2012, the run sponsored by the New Hampton Parks and Recreation Department and several manufacturers has always been held in August. But with its traditional date packed with other family events — most notably the Chickasaw Open and the Youth Sports Foundation football jamboree — organizers moved this year’s run to Saturday, Sept. 10.“One of the things we’ve always loved about this event is that whole families come out and take part in it,” Parks and Recreation Program Manager Tara Hackman said, “and we just felt like we were pulling too many people in too many directions. Plus, the chances of a really hot day are less in September.”Registration and check-in for the run will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the TriMark Tech Center and the run, which is non-competitive and winds through the city’s west-side Industrial Park, starts a 9 a.m.All proceeds from this year’s run will go the TRIBE Trail Project, a proposed bike path that will connect trails in Mikkelson Park and in Industrial Park.Once the trail is compete, it will be approximately 6.5 miles long and the ultimate goal is to connect it with a surrounding town.Registration for the Color Run before Aug. 18 will be $25 for those 13 and older and $20 for those 12 and under.Registration fees after that date will be $35 and $30.Immediate families who register at least three competitors will have a $20 per family member fee before Aug. 18 and $30 per family member fee after Aug. 18.Industries who are co-sponsoring the event include New Hampton Metal Fab, ATEK Metal Technologies, Croell Redi-Mix, TriMark, Bay Valley Foods, Milkhouse Candles and Precision of New Hampton.“We’re excited with the new date and can’t wait to have a great day and raise money for the bike trail,” Hackman said. “And to have our industries step up and be such a big part of this is a great way to showcase what we have here in New Hampton.”
