Incumbents not giving up

Two Chickasaw County supervisors who lost in last month’s primary election will be on the ballot after all this fall.District 1 Supervisor Rick Holthaus announced last week that he will run as an independent this fall while District 4 Supervisor Steve Geerts said Sunday he’s “definitely running.”Holthaus was upended by challenger David Tilkes in the Democratic primary while Geerts finished second to Ron Underwood in a three-way battle in the Republican primary.“I had a lot of people who have come up to me and really urged me to do this,” Holthaus said, “and I love my job. It’s a part-time job that I treat as a full-time one and there are some things I’d like to see completed.”Holthaus is seeking a third term on the board. He was first elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2012. He has served as the Board of Supervisors chairman for four years and as its vice chair for two years.“We’ve done a lot of good things in this county, and yes, we’ve faced some challenging times,” he said, “but we have one of the best tax rates in the state.
