If it’s ‘classic,’ it’s welcome at this show

If you think it’s a “classic,” that’s good enough for Blue Iris owner Julie Winter-Havel.It’s why her business has banded together with Butch’s and Josie’s to sponsor a “Classic Night” on Thursday, Aug. 4, in New Hampton.“We wanted to do something to bring people downtown, and we used to have classic car shows and they just went by the wayside,” Winter-Havel said, “so we thought, ‘Let’s bring it back’.”And back it is, with a bit of a twist.Classic Night will include cars, tractors, motorcycles and anything else that its owner deems a classic.“We didn’t want to limit it at all,” Winter-Havel said, “and we didn’t want people to have to sign up or pay a registration fee. We just wanted them to come and let people enjoy the classics.”The plan is pretty simple.Classic tractors will be lined up on the Blue Iris’ block, classic cars will line up a block to the east and the next block will contain classic motorcycles.Overflow areas will be on Chestnut Avenue and Walnut Avenue in front of Josie’s.A meal, will be served, music will be available and drawings will be held every hour of the show that runs from 5 to 8 p.m., and those who attend can vote on the people’s choice awards that will be presented at the conclusion of the event.“We felt like we needed an event, we needed to do something,” Winter-Havel said, “and we just want as many people as possible to come out and have a good time.”For more information on the event, call 641-394-4158.
