Huskies take second at own tournament

    The losing streak — thanks to a three-set loss to Osage — had reached nine and Nashua-Plainfield was coming off “homecoming week” as it prepared to take on Valley Lutheran in the opening match of its invitational.    Coach Amber Carter’s advice to her Huskies? “Fake it until you make it.”    It worked as the Huskies rolled to a straight-set victory over the Crusaders and followed it up with a sweep of Riceville as Nashua-Plainfield finished second at the tournament.    “I was extremely proud of our effort and heart this week,” Carter said. “Homecoming can be a distraction and to be completely honest, when I watched them all walk in on Saturday I was a little worried that they were exhausted from it all, which they should be.”    So she gave her girls the fake-it-until-you-make-it pep talk, and the Huskies rolled.    “They did just that” she said, “and played with a lot of heart and gave a lot of effort.”    The Huskies were perfect at the serving line — going 41-for-41 and had 11 aces, including three by senior Sydney Hansen while Rylee Bonzer and Liberty Fisher added four kills apiece.Against Riceville, the Huskies got four kills from Shaylee Hansen and were never really threatened, to earn a date with Denver in the championship match.
