Huskies show mettle at home

    For almost 11 months, Brock Dietz has had to live with the disappointment he endured at the Class 1A state-qualifying cross country meet.    “I want to run at state,” the Nashua-Plainfield senior said. “That’s all I’ve thought about since last year, so even when I didn’t want to run this summer, I ran. I don’t want to feel that again.”    If Tuesday’s Nashua-Plainfield Invitational is any indication, Dietz is well on his way to erasing that memory — one in which he missed qualifying for state by a mere 12 seconds — once and for all.    Running in his first race of the season, he blistered the Town and Country Club course in a time of 17:53.7, more than 40 seconds faster than he ran the race a year ago, and took third place in a meet that featured some of the best Class 1A runners in Northeast Iowa.    “He’s definitely come into this season with a different mind set,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Jen Kalainoff said after both her teams finished fourth in the team races.
