Golf dominance
Notably absent Saturday during the annual New Hampton Coed Invitational was the wind athletes have gotten used to [or maybe not] this spring. Instead, the air was quiet enough to hear not only the usual sounds of trees getting in the way of golf balls at the New Hampton Golf and Country Club, but also the sound of golfers treading on some spongy ground. "We weren't sure Thursday if we were going to be able to have this meet, the grounds were flooded," said boys coach Bill Glenn. "Luckily, the water goes up fast here, but it goes down just as fast." The Chickasaws won a 3-team meet the night before at Tripoli, and the next morning started their quest as champions of their own 4-team tourney, which they accomplished with a 312. "This was our lowest team total since 2006," the coach added. "I was proud of all of our kids' efforts. They came to play and it showed." North Fayette Valley was second — 30 strokes back — followed by Denver and South Winn. For the scores of all the New Hampton golfers, please see the April 25 Tribune.
