Geneva Drewelow dies at 85
Geneva Drewelow age 85 of Nashua, died Friday, May 5, 2017 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua with Rev. Bill Nielson presiding. Interment will be held at St. John Western Douglas Cemetery in Plainfield with Amanda Petersen, Brent Petersen, Adam Drewelow, Brooke Drewelow, Aaron Drewelow, Andy Drewelow and Brianna Drewelow serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan, Lauren, and Ethan Petersen and Addison, Braelyn, Brylee, and Whitney Drewelow.Friends may greet the family from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home – Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Online condolences for Geneva's family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.comGeneva Arlene Drewelow was born Feb. 23, 1932 in a farm house in rural Bremer County, the daughter of Art and Amanda (Gebert) Hoeper. She attended country school and graduated from Tripoli High School in 1950.After high school, she went to Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and received her teaching degree. Geneva taught in three country schools, one by Horton and two in the Douglas Township. She married Jerry Drewelow on June 14, 1953. To this union two children were born, Rick Drewelow and Louise, who died in infancy. Geneva had a very deep faith in God and taught Sunday School for many years. Daily she read the Bible and many devotional books. Reading was one of her favorite pastimes. Geneva purchased bibles for third graders at St. John Lutheran Church for 35 years.She always enjoyed working on the farm, feeding calves, milking cows, chisel plowing, picking up rocks and helping bale hay. Geneva was the bookkeeper for the Drewelow Family Farm for many years. In 2006, she was honored to be Grand Dairywoman for Fredericksburg Dairy Days. She loved to quilt for church and attend circle meetings, paint pictures, tend to her garden, dance and listen to music; especially her son, Rick, play guitar.Geneva is survived by one son, Rick (Linda) Drewelow of Ionia; four grandchildren, Amanda (Brent) Petersen of Waverly, Adam (Brooke) Drewelow of Fredericksburg, Aaron Drewelow of Frederika, Andy (Brianna) Drewelow of Eldridge; seven great-grandchildren, Addison, Braelyn, Brylee, and Whitney Drewelow (daughters of Adam and Brooke), and Nathan, Lauren, and Ethan Petersen (children of Amanda and Brent).She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry, on Feb. 24, 1982; and one daughter, Louise, in infancy.
