Finding success

It wasn’t the finish the Nashua-Plainfield cross country team wanted, but ask coach Jennifer Kalainoff and she’ll tell you it was a successful season.  And she means it, too.  “Obviously, we were hoping to get someone to the state meet,” Kalainoff said, “but one meet on one night doesn’t define our season. We came a long, long way this year, and I’m proud of every one of my runners.”  What made last Thursday’s Class 1A state qualifying meet tough to take was just how close the Huskies came to sending a runner to Fort Dodge for the state meet this Saturday.  Junior Brock Dietz finished 17th, a mere two spots and 12 seconds away from 15th, to just miss a trip to state. Only the top three teams and top 15 runners advanced.  “He was right there, running 10th to 12th for a lot of the race,” Kalainoff said, “and he kept telling me, ‘I went out too fast, I went out too fast.’ No, he did exactly what he needed to do. He ran a great race, and I know he’s disappointed and he was heartbroken, but I couldn’t have asked for more from him.”  For all of the Nashua-Plainfield results, please see the Oct. 27 Reporter.
