Elizabeth “Betty” Steffen, age 93, of New Hampton, IA passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton with Father Brian Dellaert celebrating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in New Hampton. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post # 38.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton with a 7:00 PM Scriptural Wake Service.  Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral mass.  Online condolences for Betty’s family may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com.  Memorials may be directed to the family.
Elizabeth Emma Reisz was born on July 6, 1923 to John and Marie (Gerlach) Reisz in Panama, Iowa.  She graduated from Harlan High School.  Betty attended nursing school in Council Bluffs, IA where she received her nursing degree.  She then enlisted in the US Army and served as an army nurse during World War II caring for German POW’s at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, CO.  After her honorable discharge, Betty was a nurse at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, where she met her husband, Norbert.  The couple was united in marriage on August 4, 1952 in Panama, IA.  After they moved to New Hampton, Betty worked as a Registered Nurse at the Hospital for many years.  She was also employed the New Hampton Clinic.  Betty finished her nursing career working for the New Hampton school district as a school nurse until her retirement. 
Betty enjoyed gardening, watching the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls games.  She served on the Veterans Affairs Board and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  Betty was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Betty is survived by her children, Paul Steffen of Overland Park, KS, David Steffen and Thomas Steffen, both of New Hampton and Julie (Mike Ironside) Steffen of Dubuque, IA; her grandchildren, Sean Steffen and Sarah (Matt) Fowler; her great-grandson, Cameron and numerous nieces and nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Norbert in 2013, her brothers and sisters; John Reisz, Anna Mickels, Joe Reisz ,Fr. Adam Reisz, Theresa Hastert, Frank Reisz, Catherine Stinn, Carl Reisz, Walter Reisz, and Lenard Reisz.
