Edward "Bud" Hartson dies at 73

Edward "Bud" Hartson age 73 of New Hampton, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2016 at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton.A Memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton with Chaplain Brad Wysomierski presiding. Friends may greet the family 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at the funeral home. Online condolences for Ed’s family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.comEdward “Bud” Raymond Hartson was born Feb. 16, 1943, in Fredericksburg, the son of Virgil and Viola (Shumate) Hartson. Bud received his education in Fredericksburg. He then joined the United States Army where he was a mechanic on heavy equipment during the Vietnam War. For the majority of his service, Bud was stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, Bud began working as a mechanic in Fredericksburg at the local service station. At this time, Bud was introduced to Arlene “Sue” Blockhus and the couple were married in 1970. To this union one daughter, Sonja, was born. The couple later divorced. Several years later, Bud was introduced to Neena Jones. They spent many happy years together. He then began working at Meinerz Creamery in Fredericksburg in the maintenance department. He worked there for several years before moving to New Hampton to work as a custodian at the New Hampton High School. Bud began working at Tri State Signing and worked there for several years before it’s closing. Bud worked part time at Andy’s Bar in New Hampton enjoying the conversation and camaraderie. Bud retired in 2002. In Bud’s younger days he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and racing cars. He also loved to play cards, collect coins, and purchasing items on QVC and HSN for his family.Bud worked hard to ensure that his family was taken care of. His daughter and two grandchildren were his life and he cherished them every day. Bud is survived by one daughter, Sonja Warner of Waverly; Friend, Ehren Padget of Waterloo; one grandson, Jordan Lawson, US Navy stationed on the USS Stockdale DDG106; granddaughter, Megan Lawson of Waverl; sister-in-law, LaVonne Hartson of Fredericksburg.He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd (Judy) Hartson and Jim Hartson; one sister, Darlene (Melvin) Flugge.
