Dr. Lumir Dedic dies at 83
Dr. Lumir Dedic passed away peacefully in his home on May 7, 2017, with his two sons and his great friend and caretaker in the end, Sandra Osborne at his side. Friends may greet the family 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton with a Time of Remembrance beginning at 7 p.m. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Tama, at a later date. Online condolences for Lu's family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.comIn lieu of flowers, all memorials will be donated to one of his favorite passions, the Decorah trout hatchery.Lumir (“Lu” “Doc”) Anton Dedic was born on July 26,1933 to Adolph Dedic and Wilma Yanda Dedic in Cedar Rapids. After the death of his father, he spent some time in the local orphanage until Wilma remarried a few years later to Sam Bryan and spent the rest of his youth in Tama. He enlisted into the United States Air Force after high school and spent some time in Texas and Japan while in the military. He married Merry Francis Gray and was blessed with two sons, Gray Anthony Dedic and Brad Dedic. After finishing his undergrad at Iowa Teacher’s College, he earned his DDS from the University of Iowa and moved to New Hampton where he practiced until May of 2004. He loved his patients and was adept at putting them at ease with his sense of humor. He was a lifelong and diehard “Hawk” fan (and anyone playing the Cyclones). He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and especially fishing trips to Canada and many years of RAGBRAI and other fishing adventures with his good friends. He also enjoyed watching his two grandsons play hockey and poker nights with his good buddies. He loved to tell a great joke and embellished a good story each time he told it. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to commune with nature in his one bedroom “Fortress of Solitude.”He is survived by his sons Gray Dedic of Hayward, Calif., and Brad (Beth) Dedic of Roland, Iowa and their two sons, Jacob Alexander and Spencer Dean Dedic. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father.
