Donna Mae Schoonover was born June 16, 1923, in rural Fredericksburg, IA, the daughter of John and Amelia (Niewoehner) Schoonover. She attended country school during her grade school years. Donna was a 1941 graduate of Fredericksburg High School where she excelled as a singer, and playing the baritone in the band.
Upon graduation, Donna devoted her life to the farm and everything that was connected with it. She worked in the fields, raised and grew chickens, cows, and hogs. Donna loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She liked to bake, was a good cook, and canned all of her spoils from the garden. She enjoyed babysitting the neighborhood boys and girls. Donna spent a lot of time with her nieces and nephews.
Donna devoted a large portion of her time taking care of her parents in their elder years. Her care and compassion helped them both to reach the age of 98.
Donna loved having cats on the farm, dancing, and getting together with a local group of ladies to have coffee and visit. She enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her family and friends. Donna moved into the senior housing in Fredericksburg eight years ago and finally moved to Maple Crest Nursing home in Fayette two and a half years ago.
Donna is survived by three sisters, Margaret (Jean) Mueller of Sumner, IA, Burnita Lienau of Fredericksburg, IA and Beverly Perry of Cedar Falls, IA; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Beth Edgar and Shirley Rabe; one brother, Wilbur Schoonover; sister-in-law, Phyllis Schoonover; six brothers-in-law, Paul Edgar, Henry Rabe, LaVerne Lienau, Rollis Mueller, Doug Keith, and Jack Perry.
