District to stay with FCMG
The New Hampton School Board will not part ways with Facilities Cost Management Group after all.Board members voted 4-1 on Monday night to continue with the company that touts itself as an owner’s representative but has generated controversy in the community.FCMG and its owner Merle Rambo has come under fire at recent School Board meetings, especially after Rambo said his firm was due between $400,000 and $450,000 if the district terminated the contract. But several board members said they loathed the idea of “starting over” when it comes to putting together a project that would address New Hampton’s facility needs.“We did do our homework and we did it well,” Board Member Tim Denner said. “We talked to a lot of school districts that told us they got a good building at a good price and that is our ultimate goal.”Board Member Damian Baltes agreed.“People have used them and we’ve asked them if they got a good building,” he said, “and the vast majority have told us we got a good building at a good price.
