Depth no problem for NH trapshooters

    Tuesday it was time for New Hampton trapshooting coach Chuck Stanton to pay up.    “Last year I told the kids I’d get my head shaved if any of the girls hit 50 straight targets, and Anna Holschlag did it at the state meet,” explained Stanton.    Since Stanton is also an ordained minister and was going to officiate at a wedding shortly after state, he didn’t want the shave at that time, and another wedding prevented it so far this season, but Tuesday the locks came off.    It’s a sure bet that the trapshooters enjoyed it, and there are a lot of them again this year as 48 students were on the roster as of Tuesday.    Of the 48, 26 showed up for the letterwinner photo — one was missing — and that’s a lot of experience.    “We’re deep,” Stanton said. “We could possibly have three squads in contention this season. We have 48 really nice, well-mannered, polite kids again this year.”    A few of the seniors have already shown intentions to take the sport to the next level, a feather in the hat for the program.    “For sure. Colleges are coming to us and recruiting kids, that’s a big deal.”  The full roster and a season schedule may be found in the March 31 Tribune.
