Community gets broadband update

The New Hampton Light Plant is working with SmartSource Consulting to look into creating a Community Broadband network that will be community-owned and fiber optic in New Hampton.Two town hall meetings and a lunch and learn have so far been held to get information out to the community, as well as have any community questions answered.Curtis Dean with SmartSource Consulting out of Des Moines said the New Hampton community is not being served well and they hope to give New Hampton a telecommunications infrastructure that is citizen owned and controlled.“You get to make decisions that big corporations not always are able to make,” said Dean.He said there are currently 150 communities that have a community broadband network and that number is continuously growing.For the complete story see the 9/13/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
