City Council tables golf cart ordinance
The New Hampton City Council, once again, discussed the possibility of creating an ordinance allowing golf carts on the streets of New Hampton.City Attorney Kevin Kennedy said he and New Hampton Police Chief Mike Anderson talked over the suggested ordinance, including things they thought were appropriate.“The council can, of course, add or delete clauses,” said Kennedy. To pass the ordinance the council has to have four positive votes and with only four people at the council meeting on Monday, the council decided to table the vote. The ordinance clearly states definitions of what a golf cart is, where the vehicle can be operated, regulations for the use of the golf cart, that a permit must be held to operate the vehicle in town and the penalty that will occur if any of the ordinance’s laws are broken.Councilman Scott Perkins told the council he has had some negative calls about the proposed ordinance. For the complete story see the 7/8/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
