Chickasaws set to host volleyball invitational Saturday

The annual New Hampton Invitational volleyball tournament will be held on Saturday, and once again, the field looks loaded.Pool play in the eight-team tournament begins at 9 a.m., and the top two teams in each pool will advance to the semifinal round.New Hampton’s pool includes Sumner-Fredericksburg, South Winneshiek and St. Ansgar. Sumner-Fredericksburg was tabbed second in Class 2A when the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s preseason rankings.The other pool includes Class 1A second-ranked Tripoli, Waterloo East, Don Bosco and Denver.The tournament will end a nine-day layoff for the Chickasaws, who are 1-1 and last played last Thursday.The tournament schedule is as follows:POOL A(Court farthest from stage)Sumner-Fred vs. South Winneshiek, New Hampton vs. St. Ansgar, New Hampton vs. South Winneshiek, St. Ansgar vs. Sumner-Fred, New Hampton vs. Sumner-Fred, South Winneshek vs. St. Ansgar.POOL B(Court nearest the stage)Waterloo East vs. Don Bosco, Denver vs. Tripoli, Tripoli vs. Waterloo East, Don Bosco vs. Denver, Tripoli vs. Don Bosco, Denver vs. Waterloo East.CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKETPool B winner versus Pool A runner-up, Pool B runner-up vs. Pool A winner vs. Pool B runner-up, following by championship and third-place matches.
