Chickasaws see banner season end with loss to Osage in regional semis

Lead Summary

his one obviously hurt more than the rest, but when it was all over Thursday night, New Hampton’s volleyball coach was nothing but proud.
Yes, her Chickasaws saw a banner season — one in which they went 28-9, won three tournaments and had plenty of laughs along the way — come to an end with a 26-28, 25-18, 25-23, 25-21 loss to seventh-ranked Osage in a Class 3A regional semifinal match.
But for New Hampton coach Jess Geerts, this season will always be a treasure, and one loss, no matter how painful, won’t change that.
“I just told the girls, we lost fighting,” she said, “and that is so much easier than losing because we just didn't play to our potential. I am so proud of these girls and our program.”
Early on, it looked like the Chickasaws were going to be playing tonight [Tuesday] as they battled their way to a thrilling first-set victory.
Jessie Crooks had seven kills in the opening set, and, fittingly, the senior kills gave New Hampton the win on its fourth set point.
