Chickasaws compete at Osage XC meet
New Hampton’s cross country runners were looking forward to the Osage meet Tuesday. But then they saw the course. It changed from last year. “They saw that the course was no longer flat...it now included a few looming hills,” said coach Jamie Quass Ohrt. “As far as the weather is concerned, it was quite warm with no breeze, which made running steep hills more challenging.” The varsity girls were sixth of the 11 teams at the meet, which featured beautiful scenery, according to Quass. “But it was definitely more challenging for the kids, there were steep hills going up and downhill you ran on gravel, it was kind of treacherous.” Olivia Burke was 14th of 76 girls in the meet with a 23:29, while Sadie Tenge took the 21st spot with a 24:18 and Lydia Gessner was 27th in 24:36. “The varsity girls were very discouraged by their times, but I reassured them that they truly left everything out on the course.
Results of the meet, including the junior high, may be found in the Sept. 15 Tribune.
