Chapter EN enjoys summer meeting

Chapter EN of the P.E.O. Sisterhood enjoyed a Social Outing at noon on Saturday, July 9 at Twin Ponds Park for members and their guests. The event began with an informative talk about the Parks of Chickasaw presented by the Director of the Conservation Board, Brian Moore who told that Chickasaw County has 35 parks which includes 1,954 acres. The Nature Center includes many exhibits of animals, birds, rocks and trees. A special thanks to Director Moore for the outstanding job of explaining and showing the grounds, building and many interesting displays.Following the tour and presentation, a delicious potluck lunch was shared. Special thanks to the following officers who hostessed this great event: Kay Brunner, LeAnn Baldwin, Chris Stolz, Mary Philips, Christy Pierce, Evelyn Fisher & Kirsten Levi.The next Summer meeting for Chapter EN was held on Monday, July 18 at 7 p.m. at the home of Cathy McGregor.President Kay Brunner called the meeting to order with 13 members present.A Study of the Iowa P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund was presented by Kirsten Levi.There was information shared about the International Chapter's Continuing Education Program and the requirements applicants need to complete for consideration.A delicious lunch was served by co-hostess, Grace McGregor.The final Summer meeting was held on Monday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at the home of Sandy Szalkowski.President Kay Brunner opened the meeting with 16 members answering roll call and one guest.Laura Paplow was welcomed as a new member having transferred her membership from Rockford.Karen Shields presented a most interesting program entitled "A Grateful Heart." She told about the history of the Friendship Train and the Merci Train in the World War II era. Such great compassion and sharing was exhibited by the USA and France helping those in need and then returning the favor with mementos and memorabilia they had collected. One of the original box cars is presently located at Antique Acres which is just South of Janesville. The entire saga of this historical event is an important part of history and truly warrants reading about all the details of this most worthy cause.The basket was brought by Sharon Merfeld and won by Sue Baldwin.Co-hostess Anne Nielsen served a delicious lunch.The next meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at the home of Chris Stolz. The Founder's Day Program will be presented by Chris and Karen Shield. Karen who will also present a Study of Cottey College will serve as co-hostess. The basket will be brought by Anne Nielson.
