Cemetery arch needs to be restored

Greenwood Cemetery Board Members are hoping the arch entering the cemetery will be restored and replaced with the help of kind donors.The arch entering the Greenwood Cemetery is in need of dire repair.  The board plans to restore the lettering on the arch were currently letters are missing due to age and storms through the area. They are also planning on replacing the pillars for the arch also which are falling apart due to age and weather.“The goal is to put it back up,” said President David Edson. The board is raising money for this great cause and already has received half of their goal.  The best estimates show the total project would cost $6,000 to restore and replace the needed items.  Edson is hoping the project will be done next spring.There is a long history around this cemetery and they want to restore the arch to its former glory. This was a cemetery for the Bradford Township and started burials beginning in 1860. Many of the forefathers of the Little Brown Church are buried in this location.There are many Civil War veterans in the southwest corner of the cemetery by the Soldier’s Monument which was built in the late 1800s. The Memorial Day Services were held at this location again this year remembering the soldiers and honoring the unmarked graves in the area.Anyone who is interested in making a donation to restore the Greenwood Cemetery arch are asked to contact a board member or stop in at First State Bank in Nashua.  Secretary of the Board Anita Sullivan would be able to direct donors to the account. Nothing can be done until the goal is reached so donate today to keep the rich Nashua history going strong for future generations to come.
