Carma Jean Bouska, 67
Carma Jean Bouska was born Oct. 30, 1950, in Sumner to Robert and Margaret (Rieck) Fink.
Carma grew up in Tripoli and graduated from Tripoli High School in 1968. While in school she participated in track, band (clarinet), vocal music, drill team and annual staff.
After high school Carma attended NIACC in Mason City and graduated in 1970 with an A.A. degree and a medical secretary certificate.
She worked at Mayo Clinic in Rochester for eight years as a medical secretary before marrying Dan Bouska and beginning her life as a farmer in rural New Hampton. The couple later divorced.
While living in the New Hampton area, Carma worked at Medical Associates, Zip’s Truck Equipment and the New Hampton Tribune as a typesetter.
She began working at CUNA Mutual in Waverly in 1989, working in various positions until her retirement. She bought a house in Waverly, where she lived the last 20 years of her life.
Carma was a big fan of NASCAR, attending some NASCAR races, including the Daytona 500. Her favorite driver was No. 24, Jeff Gordon. Carma enjoyed attending concerts and plays.
One of her favorite singers was Toby Keith, whom she got to meet.
Throughout her life, Carma was an avid bowler, having been introduced to the sport by her parents. She served as secretary for many years in leagues that she bowled in. She bowled in many different tournaments, including over 30 national tournaments all over the U.S. She served on the Greater Cedar Valley USBC Bowling Association Board of Directors. She served as sergeant at arms and as a director for the Iowa State USBC Women’s Bowling Association.
Carma was honored in 2016 for her years of work and dedication to the sport of bowling by being inducted into the Iowa State Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame.
Carma also enjoyed all sports, reading, cross-stitching and cooking.
Carma passed away at the age of 67 on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, in Rochester, Minn.
She endured a life-long struggle with diabetes, being diagnosed with the disease at the age of three. Her death was due to complications of this disease.
She advocated medical research to help find a cure for diabetes and supported this cause throughout her life.
Carma is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Barry.
She is survived by a brother, Michael (Elaine) of Traer; a sister-in-law, Kathy Fink of Tripoli; nephews Eric Becker of Leesburg, Va., and Matthew (Annie) Fink and their children, Addison and Bennett of Cedar Falls; three aunts; two uncles; and several cousins. Carma is also survived by the many, many friends she made throughout her life.
Carma was a member of the Heritage United Methodist Church in Waverly. Carma believed in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and that through Him she would receive the forgiveness of sins and salvation of her soul.
Funeral services will be held at Heritage United Methodist Church, Waverly, at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 9.
There will be a Celebration of Life visitation Thursday, March 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Heritage United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be directed to the family, which will designate an appropriate memorial at a later date, or to the American Diabetes Foundation.
