Bins generate controversy in F’burg

Continuing discussion on their choice to switch to garbage containers, the Fredericksburg City Council spoke of the idea of still keeping small bags available for households that may not generate a lot of garbage weekly.By switching to the garbage containers, the city will not be making any money off the containers and citizens of Fredericksburg will be able to choose what size they would like for their household.Mayor Shain Kroenecke said the small garbage container costs about $45 and the monthly charge on the citizen’s bill would go up roughly $3.75 a month for the container to be paid. There will also be payment options available.The goal behind this change is to help citizens - some families costs may even be going down from not having to buy three to four garbage bags a month.To determine who would like garbage containers and what size they want, the council will be sending out clip and send sheets that citizens can fill out and send back to city hall. If citizens don't send the sheet back the default will be to give that citizen a 35 gallon can.The containers can be viewed at the Fredericksburg City Hall.Kroenecke also said he is not against having small bags available to citizens still if the citizen doesn’t want a garbage container.For the complete story see the 7/12/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
