ernard Horn, age 97 of Nashua, died Monday, May 11, 2020, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2020, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, with Rev. Drew McHolm officiating. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing practices will be observed with the public being asked to wear a mask if possible.
Interment will be held in St. John United Church of Christ Church Cemetery, rural Nashua.
A public "rolling" visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2020, prior to the service at the church.
Bernard (Bernie) was born September 1, 1922, at the home place southwest of Nashua, the son of George and Molly Horn. He attended the local grade school and graduated from Nashua High School in 1940.
He was drafted into the Army in 1943, trained in Texas and sent to North Africa, Italy, and Sicily where he served as a medical corpsman. He returned to the family farm to farm with his father. He married Eva Litterer in 1959 and they had a daughter, Marilyn Sue.
He enjoyed music (country), played guitar, and sang in a local quartet with his brother, Robert, Fred Kehret, and Theophil Hauser. They were popular in the local community and sang on many occasions. He also enjoyed photography and in later years, he became a .ham radio operator and thoroughly enjoyed talking to people around the country and world.
Bernie also worked with wood and made beautiful wall plaques, crosses, and clocks which he sold at the Welcome Center in Nashua. Throughout his life, Bernie was always a kind and considerate man and could always find the perfect Christmas present for his family. He and his brother also enjoyed a good joke or prank. Bernie was able to participate in a World War II Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., and was the recipient of an Honor Quilt.
He is survived by his nephew, Loren Horn, and niece, Karen Knight (Ken) as well as great and great-great nieces, Amy,(Dale),Jordan and Taylor Launstein.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva, in 1966 and daughter, (2018) and parents.
