Ann Billings Sanderson dies at 82
Ann Billings Sanderson, 82, of Oelwein, died Tuesday evening, June 28, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, with Reverend Patricia Shaw officiating.Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.Inurnment: New Hampton Cemetery, New Hampton. A Memorial Fund has been established in her name.Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Ann Hainer was born May 6, 1934 at Austin, Minn. the daughter of Blair and Josephine (Lefler) Hainer. She graduated from Austin, Minnesota High School and Iowa State Teachers College. On January 9, 1955, she was united in marriage to Bruce Henry Billings at Cedar Falls. Bruce died in October of 1980. On January 30, 1982, she was united in marriage to Allan William Sanderson at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. Ann started her teaching career at the Charles City Middle School and continued her career as a special education teacher in New Hampton and Oelwein. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, WELCA, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, PEO and OARSPA. Ann enjoyed people, especially children, teaching, shopping, playing bridge, traveling, wintering in Florida and most of all her family. Ann is survived by her husband: Al Sanderson of Oelwein; 4 children: Bradley (Anita) Billings of Minneapolis, Minn., Michael (Kay) Billings of Story City, Vicki Hyland of Cedar Rapids and Todd (Sharon) Billings of Chicago; 3 step-daughters: Dawn (Dave) Johnson of Fredericksburg, Teri (Jim) Johnson of Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin and Kathryn Sanderson of Harpers Ferry; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 sister: Ellen Hastings of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bruce Billings; step-daughter: Sara Lee Sanderson; and 1 brother: Blair Hainer.
