All-state basketball honors to TV’s Reicks, Kuennen

    The awards kept coming for a pair of Turkey Valley girls after the 2016-17 season as both Shelby Reicks and Morgen Kuennen earned all-region and all-state honors.    The two were selected for the various honors after leading their team to a second-place finish in the Class 1A state tourney and a 23-3 record during the season.    After the two were picked for all-district honors by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association, they were also picked as all-region players by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association, in Region 3 of Class 1A.    There are three honor teams picked by the Iowa Newspaper Association in each class at the end of the season. Reicks made the 1A first team as a back-court player and Kuennen was a second team utility player. The IGCA also picked three All-State teams, with Reicks again on the first team and Kuennen on the third team.    While both players were selected to participate in the Larry Niemeyer Senior All-Star game Sunday in Cedar Rapids, Reicks also played in the IBCA All-Star game Saturday, March 25.  For the full story, please see the March 31 Tribune.
