Huskies fall in season opener

Lead Summary

Given two options — open the season with a “cupcake” or take on an experienced, solid opponent — Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball coach Josh Smith would take the latter.  And although Monday night’s 56-19 loss to New Hampton was painful at times, Smith still feels that way.  “I’d rather us open against someone good, someone I think is going to surprise some people in their conference,” he said, “rather than get a false sense of where we’re at. Obviously, we have some things to work on, but we’re going to be fine.”  The Chickasaws raced out to a 15-2 lead after the first quarter and pushed the lead to 30-5 at halftime before the Huskies settled in and played a more solid second half.  The rest of the story may be found in the Nov. 24 Tribune.
