Holiday Lights appreciates support from near and far

Many of your readers are likely familiar with Holiday Lights Magical Nights, the lights display at Decorah Pulpit Rock Campground, benefiting Helping Services for Youth & Families. It’s easy to see the bright lights and displays but forget about why the event exists. I was reminded of this when a young child visiting the Lights told Santa that all he wanted for Christmas was for his family to be happy. Sometimes it takes a child to remind us of what is most important during the holidays. The other thing that is easy to forget is the outpouring of volunteers that are required to make moments like this happen. Frankly, neither the Lights nor many of our services could be offered without the collaboration of volunteers and the financial generosity of sponsors, Holiday Lights visitors, and donors. We are so grateful that in Northeast Iowa people truly care about healthier, safer families and communities. This year the community involvement and private donations, including free will donations received at Holiday Lights, have been gratefully received. As a still somewhat new resident of the area, I am overwhelmed with this generous response. To all who have volunteered, sponsored, or visited the 12th year of Holiday Lights Magical Nights, thank you! (As a reminder, the Lights will continue to shine bright at the Decorah Pulpit Rock Campground every night from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Christmas Day). I am happy to share with your readers more stories from the Lights—Santa passes on some wonderful tales—or from the youth and families who are served because of this community's continued support.
