Allan W. Sanderson dies at 84
Allan W. Sanderson, 84, of Oelwein, died Thursday morning, Nov. 17, 2016 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein with Rev. Patricia Shaw officiating. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.Military Memorial Service: 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home by the Ross Reid American Legion Post 9 Honor Guard of Oelwein. Inurnment: New Hampton Cemetery, New Hampton. He graduated from New Hampton High School. Allan proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Arthenese Leichtman in New Hampton and to this union four daughters were born: SaraLee, Dawn, Teri and Kathyrn. They later divorced. On Jan. 30, 1982, he was united in marriage to Ann Hainer Billings at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. Allan was a milk man, he owned and operated Leichtman Dairy in New Hampton. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served on church council, Hebron Masonic Lodge 374 A.F. & A.M., El Kahir Shrine, Ross Reid American Legion Post 9 and Ross Reid American Legion Post 9 Honor Guard. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, golfing, the Chicago Bears, reading, telling family history, going to coffee with his best friends, vacationing with Ann, Florida and spending time with his family.Allan is survived by his 3 daughters: Dawn (Dave) Johnson of Fredericksburg, Teri (Jim) Johnson of Prairie Du Chien, Wisc. and Kathryn Sanderson of Harpers Ferry;4 step-children: Bradley (Anita) Billings of Minn., Michael (Kay) Billings of Story City, Vicki Hyland of Cedar Rapids and Todd (Sharon) Billings of Chicago;17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 brother: Kenneth (Velma) Sanderson of Texas;3 sisters: JoAnn Johnson of Cedar Rapids Janice Ohm of New Hampton and Hazel Lantz of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Ann, the love of his life on June 28, 2016; daughter: SaraLee Sanderson; 2 brothers: Carmen Sanderson, Richard Sanderson; and a sister: Arlene Kalinas.
