New Hampton’s Gannon Shekleton splits the Waukon defense and gets ready to put up a shot during last week’s NEIC opener for both teams.

Turning up the heat

Chickasaws force 22 Waukon turnovers, roll to league victory

If Gannon Shekleton’s take is correct about his New Hampton boys basketball team this year – opponents could be in store for plenty of headaches courtesy of the Chickasaws.

Shekleton – who helped fuel a late 14-0 run that disposed of Waukon in the NEIC opener last week Tuesday by a score of 64-49 – feels New Hampton is just beginning to reach the shoreline.

That’s basketball vernacular and metaphorical speak that basically means these Chickasaws are just starting to realize their own potential.

From all outward appearances it looks like New Hampton has just begun to tip their toes in the drink and test out just how good this 2021-2002 squad can become.

“We’re just touching the water. Our capability – the sky’s the limit as a team,” said Shekleton. “We really have a chance to be really, really good this year. I think we have a chance to run at state.”
