Chickasaw boys show depth in rout of Comets

Freshmen shine as New Hampton tops Comets, takes second at W-SR tourney

The good, the bad and the lucky.

The game of golf can be vicious at times.

Just one bad hole can ruin an otherwise fruitful outing on the links.

Or the opposite can be true, where a single shot can save par and possibly a season.

Kyler Glenn will take it and move on to his next round.

Glenn, in his first career varsity meet as a New Hampton Chickasaw, placed medalist runner-up in the season opener at Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Charles City on Friday afternoon

On a cold and damp day, Glenn pushed through and came up with a six-over par 42 to lead the Chickasaw scoring.

Coach Glenn’s squad bested the Comets in the dual – 178 to 199. Glenn thinks it’s the best round one of his Chickasaw teams has ever produced on the course in his 11 seasons as head coach.

Kyler, a freshman transfer from Sumner-Fredericksburg, was one of four freshmen to lead New Hampton in scoring on an eventful day for NH head coach Bill Glenn – Kyler’s father.

A day after beating Charles City, the Chickasaws headed to Waverly for an 18-team title, and four freshmen — Glenn, Ty Robinson, Jack Shawver and Kam Josephson — all shot in the 80s to lead New Hampton to a second-place finish.
