Trojans discover bats in 9-0 victory

In its first six games of the season, Turkey Valley’s baseball team had a combined 21 hits. During a Saturday tournament at Crestwood, the Trojans — while defeating the host Cadets — added 20 hits. In one game.
Turkey Valley’s win over Crestwood was by a 9-0 score, which could have been even higher had the Trojans not left 12 stranded.
“We left a ton of guys on base, but also came up with a couple of clutch two-out hits, so we will take the baby steps approach,” said coach Dan Stepan.
Turkey Valley also lost 12-0 to South Winn in the tourney for a 3-6 record on the season.
Both the Trojans and Crestwood singled to start their bat in the first inning. But whereas Turkey Valley’s Mason Goerend stole second and scored the first of three runs,  the Crestwood runner was caught stealing on a throw from catcher Simon Schmitt and the side was retired on a pair of fly balls to pitcher Cale Reicks.

(Editor's note - after this article was published, the stats were revised and the Trojans had 16 hits against Crestwood instead of 20. Still a nice number!)
