Sweitzer resigns as Chickasaw boys basketball coach
New Hampton is searching for a new head boys basketball coach after Chad Sweitzer tendered his resignation on Monday.
Sweitzer, who was an assistant coach for one year before serving as the Chickasaws’ head coach for the past seven seasons, said he made the decision over the weekend after meeting with Superintendent Jay Jurrens on Friday.
“I honestly didn’t think I had the support of the administration,” he said, “and I guess, in the end, I just decided the best thing for me was to resign. … I’ll tell you this much, it was fun while it lasted. I really enjoyed coaching these boys.”
New Hampton had plenty of success under Sweitzer as the Chickasaws went 112-50, won three Northeast Iowa Conference titles and advanced to three straight substate title games from 2013 to 2015.
