Finally, an event!

New Hampton trapshooters kick off spring season with home meet

While the sport schedules of area schools have been decimated by the early spring weather, the New Hampton trapshooters became the first team to kick the season into gear with a meet on Thursday at Boyd.

Although not all the teams showed up — Saint Ansgar didn’t brave the mid-30 temps — the Chickasaws had some good competition against Waverly-Shell Rock.

What made it an unusual spring day is that the winds were fairly calm. And although the temperatures weren’t the greatest, the trapshooters have been practicing in cold temps already. “The weather wasn’t terrible,” said Chickasaw coach Chuck Stanton. “It wasn’t anything out of the normal for one of our first meets.”

Waverly-Shell Rock edged the Chickasaws with the top team score of 234. New Hampton Black, led by a pair of 49s by Cam Maas and Katie Holschlag, was second at 232, while NH Red followed with a 230 and NH Gray had a 179.

Other members of NH Black were Carver Gage with a 47, Tristen Schmidt with a 46 and Tanner Lane at 41. Three members of NH Red — Jordan Holthaus, Luke Croell and Carson Crooks — all turned in a 47, while Mitch Pickar knocked down 46 of his 50 targets and Tanner Jenkins had a 43.

Holschlag was the top girl of the meet with only one miss on the day, Jaidan Burgart picked up a 43 for second place and Adrian Rings was fourth with a 40.
