Chickasaws and Trojans run at conference meets, gearing up for next week’s state qualifiers

Members of the New Hampton and Turkey Valley track teams — save for four Chickasaw girls who competed at the Drake Relays — have experienced their sport’s version of a “timeout” lately.  Before Thursday night’s Northeast Iowa Conference track meet in Waverly, the Chickasaws hadn’t competed on the track in nine days — with the girls last running at Waukon and the boys at Osage on April 25.  Meanwhile, the Upper Iowa Conference meet Thursday night in Edgewood was the first time the Trojans had competed since they took part in the Sumner-Fredericksburg Coed 10 days earlier.  The weather, of course, provided the bugaboo as the cold and rain forced the postponements of virtually every track meet in northern Iowa late last week and early this week.  The rest of the story may be found in the May 5 Tribune.
