Carson Babcock made it look easy and ended his high school with a Class 2A state championship.

Nashua-Plainfield's Garret Rinken capped off a brilliant sophomore season Saturday night as he beat West Sioux's Braden Graff in the 113-pound title bout at the Class 1A state wrestling tournament in Des Moines.

Turkey Valley won the first quarter and East Buchanan took the second, each by a slim margin.

The first half was, well, it was just putrid, but that second half was just golden and New Hampton is on its way to the Class 2A district final game.

Al Frost is intense and so are his Nashua-Plainfield wrestlers.

It’s almost like the Turkey Valley boys enjoy playing close games, and they had another one in the first round of district action Monday night as they defeated Kee High 60-52.

New Hampton senior Cody Shultz has proven how much he wants to play basketball, but Monday night, he upped his game — coming up with a career night to help the Chickasaws keep their season alive with a 60-46 win over Waterloo Columbus.

Dunkerton didn’t stand a chance on Thursday night in Jackson Junction against the Turkey Valley Trojans. 
Not if the Raiders from Linn County couldn’t even get the ball past half court. 

And then there were just two wrestlers remaining for New Hampton/Turkey Valley, but what a duo Carson Babcock and Jacob Reicks make.

New Hampton/Turkey Valley coach Matt Paulus couldn’t help but laugh when asked about Jacob Reicks after Saturday’s Class 2A sectional meet.

The rematch wasn’t even close.

Brooke Usher loves the game of basketball, loves to get in there and be physical.
