Rebounding quite nicely

The little things added up to one big thing for the New Hampton football team Friday night.

Chickasaws get first win in a barnburner!

New Hampton got a huge game from running back Carter Ferrie and came up with several big second half plays to rally for a 25-23 victory over Charles City on Friday night.

Chickasaws race out of the gate

After a 36-6 record and a state tournament appearance in 2018, the expectations are high for the Class 3A 10th-ranked New Hampton volleyball team this fall.

Nashua man sentenced for crime in which his dog led to arrest

A convicted felon who illegally possessed a gun was sentenced last month to one year in federal prison, and the lesson is this: When committing a crime, it’s probably a good idea to leave the dog at home.

Final minute heartbreak

The stats said New Hampton won this game; the scoreboard, unfortunately, didn’t as the Chickasaws saw an 18-7 lead evaporate in a 22-18 loss to Aplington-Parkersburg Friday night.

Trojan cross country starts season at EdCo

It usually takes cross country runners quite a few meets to get times back to where they were at the end of the previous season.

Something to build on

There are question marks, no doubt about it, but veteran New Hampton football coach Scott Frerichs liked a lot of the answers he saw when his Chickasaws traveled to Decorah this past Friday for their annual scrimmage with the Vikings.

Small but mighty

Turkey Valley’s cross country teams won’t show up in the team standings this year, but it’s a good bet that the Trojans will make some noise when it comes to the individual standings at meets.

Plenty of experience

In 2018, the Turkey Valley volleyball team only had one senior. This year, they possess a whopping nine seniors as they try to improve on their 4-22 record.

Aiming for Fort Dodge

With just two total seniors - both girls - the New Hampton cross country team will be extremely young.

Time to get physical

The Turkey Valley football team is coming off of a season that saw them boast a record of 8-1 in the regular season before losing to the eventual state runner-up Rockford in the playoffs in a heartbreaker by a score of 64-58.

Time for an encore!

Although the New Hampton volleyball team made the state tournament last season, the Chickasaws will have to replace a substantial amount of production heading into the 2019 campaign.

Talented Trojans

Although they had a rough start to the season - possessing a record of 1-6 to start the 2019 campaign - the Turkey Valley softball team turned their year around to boast an overall record of 18-16.
