What do you know, a track meet!

Kristi Hannemann will be the first one to say this has been her most challenging season as Nashua-Plainfield’s girls track coach.Oh, the kids are fine. They’re working hard. They have a good attitude. And they have some talent, too.But …“I just said to a friend, ‘I’ve never had to coach without meets before,” Hannemann said. “It’s hard. Trust me, it’s really hard.”After seeing its first four outdoor meets cancelled because of the weather, the Huskies finally got to run an outdoor meet, their first meet of any kind in 30 days, as they took part in the New Hampton Coed on Thursday.And although Nashua-Plainfield finished a distant sixth in the team standings, Hannemann liked what she saw from her team in a meet that was won by Class 4A Iowa City West and also included Class 3A Crestwood and a host of Class 2A schools.“Running in meets is a very important part of the season,” she said. “It’s like progress monitoring … it gives us feedback [so] it felt to compete last Thursday. We came onto the track right where we should be for our first outdoor meet. However, the problem is, we are not technically at our ‘first meet’ date.  We have less practice time to refine our skills this year so it will take extra focus.”Nashua-Plainfield got one third-place finish from Kaylee Cerwinske in the 400, and a trio — Aubrey Eick in the 3,200; Makenna Nelson, Alannah Richards, Aubry Bienemann and Britney Holthaus in the 4x100 and Holthaus, Cerwinske, Morgan Kapping and Eick in the 4x400 — of fourth-place finishes.
