Weaver makes campaign stop in New Hampton

Democratic nominee for Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District Kim Weaver stopped in New Hampton on Wednesday afternoon.Her visit to Chickasaw County was part of a 20-stop, four-day tour of the district during the final week before Tuesday’s election.Weaver is running against U.S. Rep. Steve King, who is seeking an eighth term in the House of Representatives.Weaver is an Iowa native, who was born in Des Moines and now lives in Sheldon, where she raises her three children as a single mom. She believes she will be successful  given her focus on policies that will boost families in the district.She announced her candidacy — her first for an elected office — in August 2015 and serves as the O'Brien County Democratic Party chairwoman and a member of the state party’s Central Committee.On Wednesday Weaver spoke with New Hampton residents Jeremy and Lacey McGrath about the issues that are important to her including protecting seniors.Weaver wants to work to protect Social Security and expand Medicare to cover nursing home and assisted living services, protecting family farms in the process.For the complete story see the 11/4/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
