Weather, AGWSR can’t stop Trojans
With 72 yards passing and 201 yards rushing, Turkey Valley mixed up their offense just enough to keep AGWSR’s defense off balance in the season opener Friday.
The 38-13 score and 273 yards of total offense may sound like a full night’s work, but only half the game was played.
With the Trojans leading at intermission, lightning in the area put a 30-minute delay on the scoreboard and the players stayed in the school. That 30-minute clock dwindled down several times, but each time lightning was detected, the count went back to 30 for the safety of players and fans.
Finally, the game was called and Turkey Valley got the win.
“I saw lightning at 10:15 so we would not have started the second half until 11:00 p.m.” said coach Mark Scott. “AGWSR did not want to come back Saturday. They wanted to finish it Friday, but the officials kept adding on 30 minutes after each lightning flash. It does not matter how far it is away, if they see it, it is a 30-minute wait.”
So the Trojans are 1-0 for the season after playing just two quarters of ball. There’s good and bad points to that.
