Virginia A. Meyerhofer dies at 98

Virginia A. Meyerhofer, 98, of Manly, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2017 at Manly Specialty Care in Manly.A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2017 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St NE, Mason City, with Reverend Neil Manternach officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.Virginia’s family suggests memorial contributions to the Humane Society of North Iowa, 2700 S Birch Dr, Mason City.Virginia Agnus Schelich was born Sept. 15, 1918 the daughter of William and Florence (Simpson) Schelich. She graduated from East High in Waterloo in 1936. Virginia married Ambrose Meyerhofer on May 24, 1944 in Staceyville, and to this union six children were born.After her children were grown, Virginia began working for Mercy Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide until her retirement in 1988. She continued to volunteer at the hospital until she was 92.Virginia enjoyed knitting, reading, and watching Law & Order and CSI. She also loved flowers and plants, but most important in Virginia’s life was her family. She was a good cook, but couldn’t make gravy.Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Mary (Tim) Pate, Manly, Mike (Kathy) Meyerhofer, Manly, Jack (Sally) Meyerhofer, New Hampton, and Ed (Karen) Meyerhofer, Omaha, NE; 7 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose Meyerhofer, her parents, William and Florence (Simpson) Schelich, her sister, Mary Ellen Creed, two daughters, and one granddaughter.Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St, NE, Mason City, IA.
