Valera Mae was born August 18, 1935 to Harry and Laura (Gebert) Bockhaus on the family farm in rural Frederika. She attended country school before graduating from Frederika High School. Valera caught the eye of a local dairy farmer delivering milk to Frederika Creamery passing by her home. On June 26, 1960 she was united in marriage to Earl Schnieder at St. Paul Lutheran Church, at Siegel. The couple made their home on the Schnieder family farm where they welcomed their son, Randy. Valera, along with her husband and son, farmed row crops and milked cows all her married life. In 2008, Earl and Valera were honored with being Fredericksburg’s Grand Dairymen during Dairy Days. She enjoyed playing a good game of cards with the Richland Idle Hour Club and neighbors and friends. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and TWELCA.
Valera is survived by her son, Randy (Cherie) Schnieder; two grandsons, Casey Schnieder and Cody Schnieder and one step grandson, Chris (Lisa) Hurd and their three sons; sister, VerJean King; and brother, Vern (Marilyn) Bockhaus and several nieces and nephews.
