Turkey Valley boys edge Nashua-Plainfield in district opener

As a freshman, Garrett Kurtenbach averages just over six points per game this season. He had six points in Turkey Valley’s opening win over Nashua-Plainfield, but one point in particular stood out.
Turkey Valley led by as much as 10 points early in the final period, but the Huskies clawed their way back into the game. With a 10-5 run late in the fourth quarter, Nashua-Plainfield made it a one-possession game, 45-42. Kurtenbach was fouled with 3.9 seconds left on the clock, but missed the first.
“I had [Ethan] Leibold come up after that first one and tell me ‘that’s alright, just put the next one in,’” said Kurtenbach. “I was also put in this situation earlier this season and it gave me the confidence.” 
He made the next and the win was sealed, 46-42.
“We knew this would be a dogfight,” coach Chris Sullivan said after the win moved the Trojans on to play Rockford Tuesday. “They’ve been playing good ball lately. We scrimmaged them earlier, but they were missing a couple players at that time and beside, when tournament time comes around, everybody’s 0-0.”
