Trojans suffer first UIC loss

Lead Summary

After Monday’s win over Tripoli, coach Chris Sullivan said his Trojan boys would be playing the next night, in Postville, a team “we seem to always have battles with right down to the final buzzer.”
Although the game was tight, the Pirates gave Turkey Valley their first conference loss of the season, 57-51. The first time the teams met Turkey Valley won by four and there could be yet another collision between the schools as they are in the same district.
The score was tied after a quarter, with Postville pulling ahead in the second period.
“We knew Postville would be physical and a tough test for us,” said Sullivan. “In the second quarter our defense was out of position and we gave up too many easy baskets because of it.”
The Trojans trailed by seven going into halftime. They made a run in the third, coming within one before a Postville third-quarter buzzer beater extended the Pirate lead to four heading into the fourth.
