Tilkes, Hackman and Geerts win supervisor races

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors will have a new look in January as David Tilkes won a three-way race for the District 1 seat and Jake Hackman rolled to a relatively easy victory in the District 3 race.The lone incumbent to win Tuesday was Steve Geerts, who won a rematch with Ron Underwood in District 4.Tilkes knocked off incumbent Rick Holthaus in the Democratic primary in June and then turned back another challenge from Holthaus, who ran as an independent, and Republican Dennis Litterer in the tightest race of the 2016 election. Tilkes received 423 votes, or 34.8 percent, while Holthaus finished second with 400, or 32.9 percent. Litterer garnered 391 votes.Hackman, meanwhile, gave Republicans their one win in county-wide races as he got 752 votes, of 57.6 percent, while Democrat Jeremy McGrath garnered 552 votes, or 42.3 percent.And in District 4, Geerts, who lose the Republican primary in June but was nominated by the Democrats at a special convention over the summer, finished with 762 votes, or 54.9 percent, to best Underwood, who got 625 votes.— For more Election 2016 coverage, see the Nov. 10 Reporter and the Nov. 11 Tribune
