Three supervisor seats to be filled Tuesday
When voters in Chickasaw County head to the polls on Tuesday, they will be doing much more than just helping to elect a new president of the United States. There are races up and down the ballot, including three here in Chickasaw County, where three supervisor seats are at stake. In District 1, which includes the northern part of the county and the towns of Ionia, Bassett, North Washington and Alta Vista, voters will have three choices.Incumbent Rick Holthaus is running as an independent after losing to Dave Tilkes in June’s primary while Republican Dennis Litterer ran unopposed in his party’s primary. In District 3, which includes the western side of New Hampton and several townships, Republican Jacob Hackman and Democrat Jeremy McGrath are seeking to replace Democrat John Andersen, who did not seek re-election.And in District 4, there is a rematch of sorts as Ron Underwood, who won a three-way Republican primary in June, is running against incumbent Steve Geerts, who after falling in the primary was nominated by the Democrats at a special convention this summer. The two other supervisors seats — currently held by Republicans Tim Zoll and Dan Carolan — are not up for election until 2018.Two other county elected offices have just one candidate as Democrat Marty Hemann is the lone candidate for sheriff and the Democratic incumbent, Joan Knoll, is running for auditor. Each candidate in the contested races took the time to answer several questions put forth by the Tribune, and here are their answers. For the complete story see the 11/4/2016 New Hampton Tribune.
